BJP on Monday fielded newly-inducted leader former cricketer Gautam Gambhir from the East Delhi constituency, days ahead of polling in the National Capital. Ahead of filing his nomination on Tuesday, Gautam Gambhir carried out a roadshow across the constituency.
During the roadshow, the cricketer-turned-politician spoke to Republic TV from on top of his vehicle on an array of topics ahead of his debut electoral foray.
"If you enter into politics with true intentions, things start coming to place. I don't have a competition with anyone else. I have a competition with my own vision. I will fulfill my vision, and they will join my vision, they will surely vote," he said while speaking to the reporter.
On being questioned about his action plan for the East Delhi constituency in the 2019 elections, he stated that he plans to transform the Yamuna Sports Complex into a state-of-the-art facility.
"We make the Yamuna Sports Complex world class, since I come from Sports, I will try to develop a stadium where the world-class game is played. The country needs a strong leader, strong leadership and that is provided by our Prime Minister. Ha has been taking such decision over the past five years which no other government has taken," he said.
Responding to questions on the Opposition's "Chowkidar Chor Hair" slogan against the Prime Minister, he said:
"It is their job, I can't say much into it. I am only joining my PM's vision. I will try to take his legacy forward."
Gambhir then sending a message to the voters of Delhi, said that he will make "East Delhi the best Delhi".
"Will make East Delhi Best Delhi. I am a Delhi boy and emotional towards the city, I will do something good for Delhi," he added.
Gautam Gambhir has replaced Maheish Girri, who is the sitting MP from his party from the constituency, as the party's candidate for East Delhi constituency. He is set to take on Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress and Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
