UPA Chairperson and sitting MP from UP's Raebareli constituency, Sonia Gandhi has cast her vote on Sunday in Nirman Bhawan poll booth in New Delhi during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. She was accompanied by Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit who is contesting polls from North East Delhi constituency.
Earlier in the day, her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi placed his vote in Delhi. After exercising his right to vote, he spoke to the media, saying that he is confident that love will win attacking PM Modi.
"India's power and financial strength were wasted by the Modi government. The election was fought on key issues including demonetization, farmer problems, Gabbar Singh Tax and corruption in Rafale. Narendra Modi used hatred in the campaign and we used love and I am confident love will win," he said.
Ahead of casting her vote, former Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit also expressed confidence over Congress' win in the National Capital attributing the party's systematic outreach.
"We (Congress) will win all seven seats in Delhi. I am confident because our candidates have fought election well and in a systematic fashion, reaching out to everyone. Our target is seven seats," she said.
On Sunday, 59 constituencies, six states, and one Union territory will go to polls to seal the fate of 979 candidates in the 2019 Parliamentary elections.
Voting will take place for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Haryana, eight seats each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, seven in Delhi and four in Jharkhand. Results to be announced on May 23.
