BJP's East Delhi Lok Sabha election candidate Gautam Gambhir has been part of a friendly exchange with the sitting MP from his party from the constituency.

Shortly after the World Cup-winning former Team India star's candidature was announced, Maheish Girri who had won the 2014 Lok Sabha election to the East Delhi seat as the BJP won all seven of the seats in the capital tweeted his best wishes for Gambhir.

'I wish the BJP's East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir all the best. I have full faith that under his leadership we will win across East Delhi and help make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister.'

'In the last five years I have put in all effort for the development of East Delhi. I have got the full support of my party, Amit Shah and all our karyakartas. I thank them all. Tomorrow I will go with Gautam Gambhir for his nomination filing. You all also come.'

The BJP announced the candidature of Gautam Gambhir who only joined the party a few weeks ago on Monday evening alongside Meenakshi Lekhi who will be contesting the New Delhi Parliamentary constituency. Lekhi is the sitting MP for the seat.

Awaiting Gambhir now is a tantalising contest, against AAP candidate Atishi Marlena and Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely.

Delhi votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Phase 6 on May 12.
