Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attacked the Congress party for failing to work for the betterment of Odisha during the time they were in power, referring to the example of former PM Rajiv Gandhi and his 1985 comment for the state.

Addressing a massive rally in Kalahandi in the state, which will be the first of the many he will attend in the day, PM Modi slammed the grand old party as he reached out to the Odisha voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 polls.

"Congress has a image related with Kalahandi. The image is of Congress accepting its failure through a statement. It was in Kalahandi that Rajiv Gandhi said he sends 1 rupee from Delhi, and only 15 paise reaches the poor tribals of Odisha," said PM Modi.

Explaining his point, the Prime Minister said that the then government, despite knowing the issue, was not taking any steps to make it right.

"After accepting their failure, what did the Congress do? If the PM knew back then that only 15 paise was reaching, shouldn't he had come up with a solution? Wasn't it their responsibility in making sure the full one rupee reaches?," he added.

Not stopping there, he accused the Congress party of not having the courage to take stringent steps, and suggested that only he has had the courage and capability to do the same.

"These people, they will tell the problem, but do not have the courage to come up with a solution. That courage only Modi has, chowkidar has," the Prime Minister also mentioned.
