With less than two weeks for the Lok Sabha elections, PM Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Republic Media Network's Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami in an exclusive interview, where he spoke in-depth on several issues concerning the nation including the politics revolving around the polls.
During the interview, he responded to a question about how he had become the focus of discussions prior to the polls. He said that it's the voters who should be the centre of focus ahead of the elections for a healthy democracy than a personality.
"Firstly, I would like to say, the voter is always the central point of elections and the voter should always be the central focus of elections. Because elections are about fulfilling hopes and aspirations of voters. Political parties need to go to the voters and then people elect a government.
In our country, a wrong thing has happened where we are making the Prime Minister the central focus of elections. For the nation's bright future and for a healthy democracy, in elections, the greatest priority, the centre point should be the citizen," he said while talking to Republic Bharat.
Since the past few months, PM Modi has become the focus for the Opposition and a section of the media, as with every issue, every incident, he has been made the talking point. Many in the Opposition have even said that they are fighting the elections and forming gathbandhans to drive away the Modi-led BJP government in the Centre.
Bahujan Samaj Party's Mayawati and Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav have said categorically that they are forming alliances with a goal to defeat BJP.
PM Modi had lamented that he has been the focus of target of the Opposition.
When the Opposition questioned the air-strikes which happened post the Pulwama attack, he said that hatred for Modi by the Opposition has extended to the hatred for the nation.
The Prime Minister during an event in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu had said:
"Sadly a few political parties guided by hatred for Modi have started hating India. No wonder while the entire nation supports armed forces, they suspect the armed forces. The world is supporting India's fight against terror but a few parties suspect that. These are the same people whose statements are helping Pakistan and harming India. ”
During a speech in Akhnoor, he had said:
“What has happened to the Congress party….the anti-Modi approach adopted by them has blinded them to the extent that they have stopped thinking in the interest of the nation."
