With less than two weeks to go for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PM Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Republic Media Network's Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami in an exclusive interview, airing in-depth views on several issues concerning the nation including the reason why the people of India seek a majority government.

During the interview, he was asked to lend his thoughts on a campaign that alleged that 'Modi is after CBI, Modi is after judiciary, Modi is after the Supreme Court' - essentially all the Oppositions' claims regarding the government interfering in institutions.

Responding, PM Narendra Modi said, "Those who have seen Modi in the last 13-15 years in Gujarat, they know that what Modi has gone through. Who tried to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice? Who made the statement that there should be committed judges in the SC?

The Prime Minister was referring to the campaign launched by the Congress to impeach then-sitting Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, relying on allegations from decades prior, even as the party had also begun a vicious slander campaign to impute a political motive behind numerous contemporary cases:

In terms of media freedom, hitting back at the opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referenced the Emergency and said, " Which party brought in laws to regulate and direct the Indian media? Should I take names? It is not becoming of me and hence I am not taking names. Will those who tried to gag India's media preach about democracy now?"
