In a candid conversation with Republic Bharat's Abhishek Kapoor and Aishwarya Kapoor, hosts of 'Grilled by Kapoor & Kapoor', BJP's candidate for Gurdaspur constituency Sunny Deol has revealed that he is ready to work for Punjab and is not bothered by people questioning his knowledge of Gurdaspur.
"When people question whether I am familiar or not with Gurdaspur, I wish to ask what do they know about it? People should mind their own business. I do not care about what people say. I am ready. I will do what I am capable of. I have nothing to hide. I am a very transparent person," he said.
When asked what is the reason for his candidacy and what inspires him to run for public office, he said that PM Modi's work has inspired him his wish to connect with people to solve their problems.
"I wish to serve the nation, that's all. I wish to connect with people and understand why these problems are not getting solved. Why is taking so long inspite of Modiji's efforts Hence, I want to help the people of Punjab with Modiji's support. While the uniting of this nation due to Modiji's work has irked a few, one must see in totality how much it has helped our nation. Just like my father was attached to Atalji, I have joined hands with Modiji," he added.
Based all the nationalism-themed movie Deol has starred in when asked if nationalism had connected him to PM Modi, he said it was mainly the work Modi had done which spoke to him (Deol).
"I definitely wish Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister again as the country needs a stable PM who can give it a stable economy. We don't want the progress he has achieved to be disrupted. As more people join him, it has become evident that he (PM Modi) will win. If I win here with Modi as our PM, it will become easier to achieve my goals," he said.
When asked whether the local youth may be disappointed with an outsider like him winning the Gurdaspur, he said that he would not run back if he wins, as he had come to taste the roots of Punjab.
"I already have a well-established career in Mumbai. If I have left all that and come here, it does not mean that once I win, I will just leave Gurdaspur and run away back to Mumbai. I have come here to work and serve the youth of Punjab. I wish to taste the roots of Punjab."
Responding to Hoshiarpur constituency's Congress candidate Raj Kumar Chabbe's jibe that 'whether it is Sunny Deol or Sunny Leone, Congress only will win', Deol dismissed these comments like a fly hovering by saying he will continue to do his job.
"If I talk like them I will become like them. I am not insecure. If a flyS hovers nearby, you swat it away and continue to work. I also will continue to work," he added.
Sunny Deol faces Congress' Sunil Khakar and AAP's Peter Masih Cheeda for the Gurdaspur constituency seat which will be polling in the seventh phase on May 19. Results will be announced on May 23.
