Here's what Captain Amarinder Singh had to say about BJP's 'filmy fauji' Sunny Deol

Retorting to BJP's decision to field newly inducted BJP member and actor-turned-politician, Sunny Deol for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat, Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader, Captain Amarinder Singh, on Friday has said that  Deol who was a filmy fauji (Armyman), posed no threat to him - a real fauji. He also shared his confidence in Sunil Jakhar, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Gurdaspur, saying he would defeat Deol.

While Deol has no political or 'military' experience, the Punjab Chief Minister has served in the Indian Army from 1963-1965 under the Sikh regiment. He has also served as an MP from 2014 to 2016 and is the current MLA for Patiala Urban along with being the Chief  Minister of Punjab. Deol, who is an actor by profession, has played the lead role in military-themed blockbuster 'Border'.

Earlier on the same day, Jhakar had filed his nomination at Gurdaspur accompanied by Captain Amarinder Singh and other senior Congress leaders from Punjab.

On Tuesday,  Deol joined BJP in the presence of Raksha Mantri Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

"The way my father was attached with Atalji, today I have come to join Modiji. Whatever I can do for this family (BJP), I will do it.... I won't talk, I will show you through my work," Deol said while addressing the media at the party's headquarters.

Hours after he was inducted into the party, BJP fielded Deol as its candidate from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat, while sitting lawmaker from Chandigarh Kirron Kher was renominated from the Union Territory.

Deol's father Dharmendra was BJP lawmaker from Bikaner in 2004. Deol will take on Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar from Gurdaspur, which was in the past represented by the late actor Vinod Khanna from the BJP.
