Slamming Congress' UP (East) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for claiming to be 'daughter-in-law of Punjab', Union Minister for Food processing and Senior Akali Dal leader, Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Sunday, has said that such kind of 'gutter-level' politics is being done by Vadra who has not asked for forgiveness for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, talking to media before casting her vote in Badal village in Punjab's Bhatinda.
"Telling people of Punjab that 'I am the bahu of Punjab' is enough to make any Sikh feel agitated and angered. Here is the daughter of the father who massacred thousands of our own, whose grandmother demolished the Akal Dal Sahib. Instead of asking forgiveness for that she is portraying herself as the bahu of Punjab- what kind of low gutter-level kind of vote-catching insensitive politics is she doing?" she said.
She continued her attack on the Gandhis by targetting Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying he vows to ensure justice for sacrilege when his father former PM Rajiv Gandhi itself is guilty of the massacre.
"Then, Rahul Gandhi comes the next day and says that he is going to ensure justice for sacrilege. What about the sacrilege in Dal Sahib when thousands were desecrated? What about when your father burnt down thousands of Gurudwaras where millions of Guru Granth Sahib (texts) were burnt down? For 35 years we have been fighting for justice and you have the gall to talk about issues just for the sake of votes? It shows that Congress can stoop to any levels," she added.
Speaking about the rampant drug problem in Punjab and Congress' inability to fix it, she said that Congress MLAs and police were involved in blaming each other rather than talking about the farmer suicides and the youth dying due to drug overdose.
"This is party where a Chief Minister who has sworn to wipe out drugs from Punjab and does not talk about that. You don't talk about the farmer suicides, the unemployment and you talk about these issues which you should be ashamed of. 550 youth have died due to drug overdose and Congress MLAs and police are blaming each other. In the four weeks of the code of conduct, 250 crores worth of drugs have been caught. Imagine how much they have sold to the youth in two and a half years," she said.
When asked would she win a third term as Bhatinda's MP, she commented that people will vote in a government which will create jobs and not make false promises. She added that Congress leaders themselves have claimed voting for Congress is a waste of a vote.
"I am confident of winning. People of Bhatinda will vote for the government which will ring in progress, an AIIMS hospital, which will create jobs and has worked for ten years and not made any false promises. I don't think Congress is confidentr as they know that they have not delivered. Yesterday Navjot Singh Sidhu came and said that it is a waste of a vote voting for the Congress voting for him and so did his wife." she added.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal faces Congress' Amrinder Singh Raja for the Bhatinda constituency. All 13 constituencies of Punjab are polling on Sunday in the last phase of elections. Results are scheduled on May 23.
