Meet SVEEP - Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation, a flagship program of the  Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India which had introduced the 'Vote Baraat' on Monday in Bhadra, Rajasthan ahead of phase five polls.

On Monday, in Bhadra - a Lok Sabha constituency in the Hanumangarh district, Rajasthan a beautiful decked 'baraat' roamed the streets. The 'baraat' had a group of camels with men riding them. The camels were decorated with colourful tassels on their humps, which dangled over their torso giving a vibrant touch the ships of the desert. While the baraat looked festive, it was not celebrating a small ceremony like a wedding, it was celebrating the biggest festival of democracy - the general assembly elections or as SVEEP puts it 'Desh ka Maha tyohar' (The nation's big fat festival) and to remind voters to go vote on May 6 when Bhadra would go to polls. Citizens of Bhadra were seen to enjoy the new democratic angle given to the baraat and were seen to be participating enthusiastically in great numbers.

Bhadra will be going to polls in the next phase on May 6, where 51 parliamentary seats will be up for grabs when Bihar (5), J&K (2), Jharkhand (4), MP (7), Rajasthan (12), UP (14), West Bengal (7) will vote.

SVEEP has been arranging many such unique ways to promote voter participation by arranging rangoli displays, street art, motorbike rallies, human chain formations, etc have been underway throughout the year. The latest was the Electoral Literacy Clubs and  Chunav pathshalas launched few months for disseminating information on the electoral process.
