Much contrary to the popular opinion, which was predicting a huge majority for the Congress party in Rajasthan, the early trends from the counting of votes clearly indicated a neck-fight between Congress and BJP.

Up until 10:30 am on December 11, when the counting of votes was taking place in Rajasthan along with four other states, Congress was leading at just around 100 seats, much less than what was projected during the exit polls. BJP, who were all expected to be wiped out, were showing a good fight, leading in 80 seats.

Despite it not being the final result, the counting not just surprised, but stunned a few. One of those who couldn't believe what was happening was former J&K CM Omar Abdullah.
"Rajasthan wasn’t meant to be a close fight!" the NC leader wrote on the social media website.

The exit polls post the elections saw Congress predicted to sweep Rajasthan and oust incumbent CM Vasundhara Raje. Out of the five exit polls taken into consideration, four of them predicted Congress to easily get in excess of 100 and form the government, while Jan Ki Baat projected BJP to be the single-largest party, thought without gaining majority.
