Sources have told Republic TV that Congress is resolving to appoint veteran Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He wants the final decision to be taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi-led Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Rajasthan by securing 99 seats out of the 199 seats in the aftermath of the assembly elections 2018 results on December 11. However, the focus now shifted on the party to chose their face for the Chief Minister of the state between the party's state president and two-time CM Ashok Gehlot.

Amid the ongoing contest between the prominent leaders, inside sources, close to another senior Congress leader, have told Republic TV that the party's resolving to appoint veteran Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan at the initial stage. 

Although, earlier on Wednesday, sources had told Republic TV that two-thirds of Congress MLAs have supported Sachin Pilot to be the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Moreover, Ashok Gehlot had also proposed at the party's on-going Legislative meet suggesting that he wants the final decision for the chief ministerial face to be taken by the high command of the party, i.e. president Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, during the meeting on Wednesday, the Congress Legislature Party has passed a resolution authorising the party resident Rahul Gandhi to decide who the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan should be.

While addressing to ANI over the ongoing debate of Congress' face to be Rajasthan's next CM, state chief Sachin Pilot stated that the party will take the final call on Wednesday during a meeting and the ultimate decision was taken by Rahul Gandhi.

 Speaking with media on Wednesday, Ashok Gehlot also did not reveal much about the selection process. However, he said that he will accept the decision of his party's high command. 

"High command will decide who will be the CM after MLAs' meeting today (Wednesday). It will be clear in the afternoon. People are coming out, contacting us. Let's see, we will wait till the evening. Even BJP rebels are contacting us. I am loyal to my Congress party. It has been 40 years I am with Congress. Whatever high command will say, I will follow that"
