"We won't let the police intervene in child marriages", promises BJP candidate in Rajasthan

In the run-up to the assembly elections, political parties are making tall claims and some totally outlandish promises. From polishing boots to distributing slippers to hit them with- -all kind of tactics have been adopted. One such bizarre promise was made in by a BJP candidate from the Sojat assembly seat in Rajasthan. While addressing a gathering at the Peepaliya Kala region, Shobha Chouhan promised the people of her constituency that she would ensure child marriages are not acted against if she is voted to power.

"We have 'satta' (power) and sangathan. We won't let the police intervene in child marriages," she said.

During the course of the event, it was mentioned to Chauhan that members of the Dewasi community held child marriages, during which they faced interference by police. A viral video shows Chauhan promised to the people that she would not let anything of this sort happen.

The promise has sparked off a controversy as the nation and has put BJP government in an embarassing spot. The state of Rajasthan has been trying to do away with the age-old custom of child marriage. Meanwhile, Rajasthan is scheduled to go under polls on 7th December.

Earlier, an Independent candidate from Telangana had grabbed eyeballs because of his unique campaign strategy. Akula Hanumanth from Korutla constituency of Jagtial district is carrying slippers in hand and promising development while claiming, "If I don't work after winning, you can hit me with this slipper".

Hanumanth, while holding a holding a door-to-door campaign in Mettuppalli town was asking voters that he will resign if he fails to bring development. He also promised that the voters will have all rights to publicly hit him if he fails to stand by his promises. 

Another candidate, Sharad Singh Kumar, leader of Rashtriya Aamjan Party, contesting on the election symbol of a shoe in Bhopal, had garnered the attention of citizens, owing to his unique style of campaigning.

Sharad Singh was seen polishing shoes of the voters after stating that he is going to make use of his unique election symbol to turn it into a blessing. Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said, ''It was a free poll symbol that no one was willing to take. We took it and we will turn it into a blessing".
