Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh has courted controversy by stating that he wishes to witness the BJP and PM Narendra Modi reign supreme in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to the media, the former two-time CM of Uttar Pradesh, who holds a constitutional position in the Rajasthan assembly, remarked that his party (BJP) retaining power is important for India.
"All of us are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. So, we'd all want that the BJP comes out victorious (in the polls). I'd once again like to see Modi ji become the Prime Minister at the Centre. Him becoming the PM is necessary for the country, necessary for the society," he said.
Kalyan Singh has been the Governor of Rajasthan since September 2014. He was also a two-time CM of Uttar Pradesh, with his first term coming between June 1991 and December 1992, while second term coming between September 1997 and December 1999.
The upcoming Lok Sabha polls will commence on April 11, will be held in seven phases, and conclude on May 19 with the counting of votes taking place on May 23.
