The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has praised the economic reforms taken by the Narendra Modi-led government, by saying that the NDA has brought in economic stability. Further, in appreciating their saffron ally, the AIADMK said the Centre's economic reforms and measures have made it possible for India to be recognised as a 'decisive' player in South Asia in terms of the economy.

In particular, the party praised its ally on demonetisation and the 2017 roll-out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), both of which have always been severly criticised by the opposition parties like the Congress, DMK, and the Trinamool Congress.

'The GST tax reform may taste bitter initially, but later will be sweet like, the amla fruit', stated a write-up in AIADMK mouthpiece 'Namadu Puratchithalaivi' said.

Talking about Congress, the party said that they had borrowed loans from agencies like the World Bank during more than 50 years that they ruled and thereafter left the country in debts. AIADMK also claimed that the BJP government has not opted for borrowings in the last five years which is an example of BJP government's 'efficient financial administration.'

"Further, following demonetisation, the number of people paying income tax has increased from 3.75 crores to 6.75 crores," added AIADMK.

It also praised the central government on the achievements made in rail, road, and power sectors, and the fact that there has been no major terror attacks on the people.

Coming back to Congress, it also said that their rule was beset with allegations of scams like the 2G spectrum allocation and the Commonwealth Games. It stated that while there are no such allegations against the BJP today, it is a fact that the Congress has unsuccessfully tried to blow up the Rafale deal, where there is no iota of truth in the alleged irregularities.

The AIADMK is leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls.

Tamil Nadu is scheduled to have a single phase of polling for the 39 constituencies in and the one in Puducherry. The NDA constituents include the BJP, DMDK and the PMK, besides some smaller outfits in Tamil Nadu, while AINRC is the coalition partner in Puducherry.
