In an update to the 11 crore cash seized by the Income-tax department along with Election commission officials, an FIR has been filed on Wednesday against the Vellore DMK candidate Kathir Anand, son of DMK treasurer Durai Murugan under the sections 171(E)-, 171 (B) (2) and IPC. 125(A) of the People's Act, as per sources.
A team consisting of flying squad involved in election surveillance and officers of the Income Tax department conducted the said raids at three places across in Vellore on 29-30 March, days ahead of the Lok Sabha.
The cash amounting to over 11 crores were stashed in numerous gunny sacks and cardboard boxes, sealed in marked envelopes. Visuals of the same had been accessed by Republic TV.
As per the IT department's reports, the amount recovered belong to the family of Durai Murugan, the DMK treasurer, who is a close aide of the party chief MK Stalin.
Reports of the raids have been sent to the Election Commission of India which would decide whether to countermand polls in Vellore constituency.
Following the raids at his residences and educational institutions, DMK treasurer Durai Murugan and his son Kathir Anand had approached the Madras High court stating that the raids by the Tamil Nadu income tax officials are a political vendetta.
Reacting to Durai Murugan moving the Madras High Court against the ongoing IT raids, D Jayakumar - the Tamil Nadu Minister on I-T raids had said:
" Prior to these raids on former Durai Murugan, I had been informed about the raid by IT officials. In a press conference two days ago, I had already said that the DMK calls this distribution of money to voters -a blue sky operations. Today it has come true. The DMK has done this blue sky operations in 20 constituencies also. Specifically, they have distributed 100 crores in three areas of Chennai city alone."
