Ahead of the Assembly elections in Telangana, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has hit out at former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and called him a 'ghulam (slave)' of the Congress party who has been serving the party throughout his life.
While addressing a rally in Tandur, Vikarabad district in poll-bound Telangana, Asaduddin Owaisi said:
"There is a leader of the Congress party. His name is Ghulam Nabi Azad. He has been into politics for 45 years now. And during these 45 years, he fought only one election, and that too when he was the Chief Minister, he fought for an Assembly seat. Then he fought and won the parliamentary elections in Maharashtra's Washim. He fought three elections. After which he kept on losing. In 2014, he fought the election from Jammu and that too he lost. Today, he has been saying a lot of things about me - Asaduddin Owaisi this and that. I want to tell Ghulam Nabi Azad that there is a difference between him and me in implementation and talking about issues. But your problem is while your name is Ghulam Nabi, you have seen serving(Ghulami) the Congress party your entire lifetime. You are only serving the Congress party."
AIMIM president Owaisi also questioned the Congress leader on his contributions towards the development of people of Jammu and Kashmir while he was the Chief Minister of the state.
Earlier, during his election campaign in Telangana, Asaduddin Owaisi had accused the Congress party of trying to influence him by offering him Rs 25 lakh to cancel his public rallies in Telangana's Nirmal town. He had stated that Congress leader from Telangana's Nirmal, Maheshwar Reddy had ordered another leader to give him Rs 25 lakh in order to stop him from rallying in the state and revealed that he has a recording of the offer.
"Today when this rally was happening, Congress attempted to buy Asaduddin Owaisi. This Maheshwar(Maheshwar Reddy) calls and tells a minister to stop Owaisi and I will give 25 lakh rupees in the party fund. I have the recording. This Congressman will buy me in Rs 25 lakh?! They think we are for sale for Rs 25 lakh," alleged Owaisi addressing an election rally.
Meanwhile, Telangana will go to polls on December 7 in a single phase while the counting of votes will take place on December 11.
