AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had made a passionate appeal on Twitter through a video asking voters whether they want to change the name of their city Hyderabad, which he says means 'The city of the brave'.
Owaisi posted a video on Wednesday after UP CM Yogi Adityanath said a few days ago that the BJP would change the name of the city from Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar, if voted to power.
The video speaks about the heritage of Hyderabad saying that the city was founded by ruler Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah who was well versed with Deccani Urdu and Telugu, and used compose poetry in both languages. He also said that the city is also named after Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was also called Hyder. The video adds that Hyder means brave and hence Hyderabad is the 'Çity of the Brave'.
The video also claims that BJP has been changing the names of cities and important places while the AIMIM has worked on the development of old Hyderabad.
In the end, the video asks voters whether they would allow them to remove 'Hyder' (brave) from Hyderabad.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath, while campaigning in Goshamahal in Telangana, a few days ago had said that the BJP will rename Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar if voted to power.
"If you are keen to rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, then vote for BJP in the elections," Adityanath said,
Yogi Adityanath had also said he has especially come to campaign for the BJP candidate T Raja Singh Lodh as he was working towards renaming Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.
Telangana is set to go to assembly polls on December 7. The counting of the votes will take place on December 11.
