With only one day left for the state to go into assembly polls, Telangana Police, on Wednesday night, have seized over Rs 3 crore cash from the house belonging to a Congress worker named Amrutha Rao in Kazipet district in Warangal. Police officials have confirmed that the money that has been seized belonged to Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) leader P Devaiah. He is a candidate from Wardhannapet constituency in Telangana's Warangal district.
As per sources, the cash was planned to distributed to voters in Sangareddy constituency in favour of Congress candidate Jayaprakash Reddy, popularly known as Jagga Reddy.
"There are evidence that this money was to be distributed among voters and it belonged to Wardhannapet constituency candidate P Devaiah (TJS)," said V Ravinder, Police Commissioner while speaking to news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, Telangana police has taken cognizance of the case and is further investigating the matter.
Earlier on December 4, Telangana police has got hold of Rs 5.8 crore cash on Hyderabad-Warangal highway during a vehicle check at Pembarti election check post in Jangaon district. Cash was reportedly, hidden beneath the back seat of a car bearing the registration number AP37 CK 4985.
The car from which cash was recovered belonged to 55-year-old Hyderabad based businessman. He had sent his driver to deliver the black money to politicians. The businessman hails from Goshamahal area in Hyderabad and is known to invest in shell companies. His driver and other two people were arrested on Tuesday. The cash was meant to be delivered to three politicians belonging to TDP and the Congress.
As per reports, Rs 2.5 crore was to be sent to Nama Nageswar Rao, who belongs to the TDP, Rs 2.34 crore was to be sent to Konda Murali, who is husband of Congress MLA Konda Surekha. Approximately, Rs 2 crore to was to be sent to Warangal East MLA Ravichnadran.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan and Telangana will go into polls on December 7 and the counting of votes will take place on December 11.
