Asaduddin Owaisi wins in his party's stronghold by 517239 votes.

An Owaisi bastion, Hyderabad was held by Asaddudin Owaisi's father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi from 1984 till 2004, and then by the current AIMIM chief ever since. Owaisi defeated Dr. Bhagavanth Rao in 2014 Parliamentary elections with a margin of over 2 lakh votes. The BJP leader had said that the constituency lacks civic amenities and dispensaries, and hospitals in the parliamentary seat do not have proper facilities. He even accused Owaisi of 'dividing and instigating minorities for votes'

Campaign:

Meeting people at their homes, on padyatras and by organising interactions and meetings, especially with young voters and students, were the backbone of Owaisi's campaign in the parliamentary constituency.

The party whose election symbol is a 'kite' is seeking votes on 'hamare kaam ki buniyaad par' (on the basis of their work) and is confident of a win from the seat, said Asaduddin, who was accompanied by his brother and AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on the campaign trail.

Controversy

Both the Owaisi brothers targeted the BJP and PM Narendra Modi over a number of issues, including the horrific Pulwama terror attack and the 'Main bhi Chowkidar' campaign slogan. Pertaining to the controversy that emerged after the Election Commission scheduled the polling dates amid Ramazan, Owaisi blasted the political parties criticising the move by saying that it was 'unnecessary and uncalled for' and that the political leaders must not use the Muslim community and Ramazan for electoral benefits. He further added that Muslims fasting in Ramazan go out and lead a normal life.

Hyderabad was a traditional Congress seat from 1951 till 1984. Since then it has gone to the Owaisi family.
