The much awaited 2019 Lok Sabha elections have started in India, with the people casting their votes in the first phase of the polls on April 11. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi placed his vote in Telangana's Hyderabad city from where he is a three time sitting MP.
Speaking to media after casting his vote, the AIMIM chief urged the voters to come out in large numbers and cast their votes in the Lok Sabha polls. Further, expressing confidence over his win, Owaisi said that people have supported him for his work in the constituency.
"I request the voters to come out of their house to vote. Practice your democratic right. In Telangana, the public will definitely make those parties win who have worked for the development. In Andhra, I know my friend (Jagan Mohan Reddy) will out victorious. I am thankful to the love and blessing of the people," Owaisi said while speaking to media in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad constituency, which is traditionally an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) stronghold and won by Owaisi since 2004, has six assembly segments, and five of these were won by the party in the 2018 Telangana polls.
The BJP has again fielded J Bhagwant Rao, who had lost to Owaisi by over two lakh votes in the 2014 polls, from the seat, while Congress's Feroz Khan, who unsuccessfully contested the 2018 assembly elections, is trying his luck from the constituency.
On Thursday, 20 states go to polls with 91 Parliamentary seats in the first Phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats is being held in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting will be done on May 23.
