8 cases registered against Azam Khan in 13 days for derogatory remarks

In a matter of 13 days, 8 cases have been registered against SP leader Azam Khan for making derogatory remarks against various government officials including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Outrage erupted across the political spectrum following Azam Khan's crass Khaki-undergarment' comment on BJP's Jaya Prada on Monday, for which the Samajwadi leader got pulled up by the Election Commission imposing a 72 campaigning ban.

However, in the matter of mere 13 days, already 8 cases have been registered against Khan for making derogatory remarks against various government officials including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Case 1- APRIL 2

The first case was registered against Azam Khan in Rampur by the Congress Leader Faisal Khan Lala, accusing him of spewing venom against the DM, SDM, Additional District Magistrate, Town magistrate. In his remarks, he claimed that these four are spreading hatred. 

Case 2- APRIL 4

An FIR was lodged in Swar Kotwali, Rampur constituency against the SP leader for conducting a road show in the city for late hours at night without seeking any permission. Khan is fielded on the SP ticket on Rampur and would be contending the seat against BJP's Jaya Prada. 

Case 3- APRIL 8

Another case was filed against the senior SP leader for making a verbal attack on PM Narendra Modi, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and higher officials, further claiming that the people sitting on constitutional positions are 'criminals'

Case 4- APRIL 9

Moreover, last week Khan accused the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government of plotting to 'kill him'. A case was registered against the SP leader in Shahdab police station for using inflammatory speech against the government officials.

Case 5- APRIL 10

A case was registered against Akhilesh Yadav's party leader in Bilaspur police station over a contentious speech against Prime Minister Modi, that accused him of polarising and creating a divide between 'Hindu and Muslim communities'. Furthermore, he called chief minister Yogi Adityanath a 'criminal' under the IPC Section 302.

Case 6- APRIL 10

On the same day, another FIR was filed at the same time at the Milak Kotwali for Azam Khan’s communal speech

Case 7- APRIL 13

Case registered in Khajuria Kotwali for insulting speech against the government officials.

Case 8- APRIL 14

Azam Khan on Sunday a below the belt 'khaki' comment on BJP's Jaya Prada, his contender from Rampur, sparking outrage. Further, a case was registered against him under section 509 of the IPC (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and under sections of the Representation of People's Act.

Taking cognisance of the lewd 'khaki undergarment' comment on BJP's Jaya Pradha, the Election Commission on Monday has issued a notice to SP leader Azam Khan imposing a 72-hour prohibition staring 10 am on Tuesday and further reprimanded the leader for his remark. 

Along with the punishment, an FIR under Section 509 of IPC and Section 125 of Representation of the people Act, 1951 has been lodged against the senior SP leader for his 'indecent' and 'repugnant' comment against Jaya Prada.
