As Lucknow is set to witness a trilateral battle between Congress's Acharya Pramod Krishnam, BJP's Minister Rajnath Singh and Samajwadi Party's Poonam Sinha in the fifth phase on May 6, SP president and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has a message for the candidates of the crucial parliamentary seat.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav posted a message for the voters of Lucknow, saying, "The one who has worked in Lucknow have his/her name written on the vote."
This statement comes from the SP chief two days after his party gave the ticket to Congress leader and actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam to contest from Lucknow in the Lok Sabha polls 2019. Along with SP, the Congress party also named its candidate Acharya Pramod Krishnam to take on BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the fifth phase.
While the alliance had appealed the Congress to not field a candidate from Lucknow in 2019, the grand old party did not seemingly oblige and pitted Acharya Pramod from this parliamentary seat.
A stronghold for BJP since 1991, Lucknow is a prestigious seat for the saffron party in 2019 polls. After former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee held the Lucknow constituency from 1991 to 2009, BJP leader Rajnath Singh contested from the seat in 2014 elections and emerged victoriously.
Lucknow will go to polls, along with Congress bastions Rae Bareli, Amethi on May 6. Sending 80 seats to Lok Sabha, Uttar Pradesh will witness the most dramatic contest with high-stakes battle the 2019 election. While BJP came to power in the state in 2014 elections, a fierce battle from the SP-BSP-RLD alliance is anticipated on May 23 when the results will be declared.
