Ex-BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav's nomination as Samajwadi Party candidate from Varanasi has been rejected by the Election Commission. He was going to contest from the seat against PM Narendra Modi.

The SP candidate's counsel has said that they will approach Supreme Court over rejection of nomination.

He was a replacement for Shalini Yadav who was earlier chosen as the party's Varanasi candidate. However, she too filed her nomination after Yadav's refusing to back away from contesting.

His nomination was rejected as he did not provide information about the suspension from his government job. He did not submit the NOC from BSF to contest the polls.

Kejriwal has also responded to the situation saying that PM Narendra Modi is scared from a fight against a jawan. Below is his tweet:

On April 29, the party fielded Yadav only to have lose face as Shalini Yadav withdraw from contesting the polls.

"The party president had asked me to file my nomination and I have done so. The party president's decision is final. I will not take back my nomination. I am the legitimate candidate. There is no confusion. Party president Akhilesh Yadav had asked me to file nomination and hence I did she said," she said.

The ex-BSF jawan, a native of Rewari in Haryana, had posted a video online about five months back, complaining about poor quality food being served to the troops on the icy heights along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
