Newly-appointed Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said that she would consider contesting 2019 elections if the Rahul Gandhi-led party asks her to do so.

With only a fortnight left for the Lok Sabha elections to kickstart in the country, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took on a two-day visit to his brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi's constituencies Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday to lead the party's poll campaign.

"I have not decided yet, but if my party asks me to contest, I will definitely contest. My wish is to work for the party," Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing the party workers.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined active politics in January 2019 after being appointed as the General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) by Rahul Gandhi. While there were speculative reports that she would contest from her mother's constituency Rae Bareli in 2019 polls, speculations were put to rest after Sonia Gandhi was re-selected to contest from her bastion again.

Ever since her induction into politics, Priyanka Gandhi has been campaigning extensively in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in March, she undertook a 140-km-long boat ride from Prayagraj to Varanasi, which is PM Modi's Parliamentary constituency. During her visit, she interacted with people of the state and visited a number of temples.

Days after joining the Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi also made her debut on social media with Twitter on which she posted her first tweet saying, "In the simple dignity of Sabarmati, the truth lives on."

During her visit to Gujarat on March 12, she delivered her first political speech in Gandhinagar. After assuming her new role at the General Secretary for UP East, she has been speaking to ground level party workers to up the ante for the party. There's definitely no denial that she has been working to boost Congress's chances in the 2019 polls.
