Fresh off on her win from the Gandhi bastion of Amethi, Union Minister and Amethi's MP-elect Smriti Irani on Friday has spoken on her origins revealing that she wanted initially to be a journalist but destiny had something else in store, in an exclusive interview with Republic Media Network Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.

"When I was 17 years old, I had tried to become a reporter... I was a stringer for a few months. I have done every kind of work that is possible. You can't chart out your destiny," she said.

When asked about her ambition and her Cabinet aspirations, she said that she had only focus and hunger to learn new things emphasizing that the opportunity to serve the people was a privilege.

"I have no ambition. There is a difference between focus and ambition. I had said that the BJP will win in 2019 and I had to keep that word. I am focused and I am hungry to learn something new. I am hungry to go someplace new and meet someone new who has had a different life journey than me, apart from hunger. It is easy to take your opportunity to serve, which is a privilege, for granted. And I have received that privilege," she added.

2019 Lok Sabha Election Results: Lok Sabha Smriti Irani's Triumphant Metaphor After Defeating Rahul Gandhi In Amethi Is One For The Ages

Talking about her journey to Amethi, she said that her journey was comparatively easier than that of PM Narendra Modi.

"You can get angry only when there is a difference in the entry levels. If someone is set aside just because they do not belong to a privileged background, is more the Narendra Modi story than mine. We (current BJP) are the result of years of an organizational build-up of the BJP, Jan Sangh and the Swayam Sevaks. I tell karyakartas younger than me saying we have had it very easy compared to them," she said.

Expanding on the success stories of her BJP seniors, she added that her story was not as much a struggle as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj a bigger success than her.

"As a woman, I think Sushma Swaraj has the best story- she broke into Indian politics when it was very difficult. My struggle is hogwash compared to those. It is incumbent upon us that we create better stories for our organization. So I think we have had it very easy," she added.
