A day after the massive victory in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Union Minister Smriti Irani spoke to Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in her first and exclusive interview after defeating Congress president Rahul Gandhi in his bastion Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.

Responding to the question on what is the one headline that she would like India to cover after the NDA's stunning Lok Sabha elections victory, she hailed the PM Modi-Amit Shah duo under whose leadership BJP rose to becoming one of the largest party in the world. She further said that she is proud of the Indian democracy listing out various strengths of the living in the country.

“I am extremely proud that in our democracy you can be born in absolute poverty and rise to the highest offices in the country. I am extremely proud that in our democracy, somebody can take it upon themselves to misuse power, throw you in jail and then you get justice not only through judiciary but also rise to build the biggest political organisation in the world. And that's what Modi and Amit Shah symbolise. They symbolise the resurgent of average Indian," Smriti Irani said.

When asked about her ambition and her Cabinet aspirations, she said that she had only focus and hunger to learn new things emphasizing that the opportunity to serve the people was a privilege.

"I have no ambition. There is a difference between focus and ambition. I had said that the BJP will win in 2019 and I had to keep that word. I am focused and I am hungry to learn something new. I am hungry to go someplace new and meet someone new who has had a different life journey than me, apart from hunger. It is easy to take your opportunity to serve, which is a privilege, for granted. And I have received that privilege," she added.
