As Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli and Amethi go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, Robert Vadra has extended his support to the "extended family members" of both the constituencies.

Both Raebareli and Amethi, have been bastions of the Gandhi family, and Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, the AICC General Secretary for East Uttar Pradesh, has wished his brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi and mother-in-law Sonia Gandhi well for their respective seats.

In a Facebook post, Vadra stated that the people of Amethi and Raebareli will vote against "negativity" and "for change"

His post read:

As our extended family members of Raebareli and Amethi go out to vote, I place my full faith in them that they will vote for development , they will vote for change and they will vote against all the negativity.
I am sure Raebareli and Amethi would lay the road for a better India soon. I appeal to one & all to go out and vote for change.
All my best wishes with Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA Chairperson, my mother in law, Mrs Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi, a three-time MP from Amethi looking for his fourth term from the constituency, is pitted against Union Minister Smriti Irani.

Rahul fought the seat for the first time in 2004 when his mother, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi vacated the seat for him.

Prior to this, Rahul Gandhi's father and former late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fought and won the seat in 1984, 1989 and 1991 until he was assassinated in 1991.

This time, the Congress president is contesting two seats in the Parliamentary elections, the second from Kerala's Wayanad.

In 2014, Smriti Irani shrunk the Gandhi scion's vote-share by 46.71% while the BJP's soared from 5.81% to 34.38%
