Slamming Mayawati for appeasing to the Muslim voters, Congress candidate for Saharanpur, Imran Masood, on Monday, has alleged that 'Mayawati appeases to Muslims while campaigning and post-election calls them traitors.' saying:
"Mayawati has claimed thrice before, that Muslims are traitors. She should clarify this while campaigning for votes and appeasing to them (Muslims). After getting those votes she calls them traitors."
Terming votes given to Mayawati - 'a waste', he added, "Votes given to Mayawati are a waste. The Central government which is going to be created is going to be that of Congress. Mayawati is contesting for 80 seats in the Lok Sabha. Without Congress, what kind of majority can she claim?"
Accusing the BJP of underhanded politics, he said, "somehow there seems to be an underhanded play of BJP in all of this."
Masood, who is the vice-president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee will be contesting against BJP's Raghav Lakhanpal- who won the Saharanpur constituency in 2014. He will aslo be facing Haji Fazulrahman of the SP-BSP-RLD gathbandhan.
The entire 'appeasing to the Muslim vote' controversy started when BSP Supremo and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati in a Saharanpur rally on Sunday, had said that 'Muslims should vote for Gathbandhan' in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"I'm warning, especially people of Muslim community, that Congress isn't in a position to fight BJP in UP. Only 'gathbandhan' can fight BJP. Congress knows this but they're going by mantra 'Hum jeete ya na jeete, gathbandhan nahi jeetna chahiye'. Therefore Congress party has fielded candidates from such castes and religion which will benefit BJP. Therefore I am warning members of Muslim community," Mayawati said.
Further urging the Muslims to 'unite' the votes for the BSP-SP-RLD gathbandhan, she said:
"I want to tell the Muslim community to not let their votes divide. I ask you to vote together for BSP, SP, and RLD."
Slamming Mayawati for her religion-based appeal, UP General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (West) Jyotirditya Scindia, on Sunday, had rebutted claiming that time has come to change the path from religion, caste politics to development and progress.
He further added how it is her 'job to seek votes' however, they (Gathbandhan) have a different ideology and Congress has its own.
He said, "It is her job to ask for votes for her party. This is the strength of democracy. We respect all Opposition parties, they have their ideology, we have our own ideology. We are going amid the people to win their trusts."
