Sonia Gandhi declares personal assets worth Rs 11.82 crore, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi owns over 15.88 crore

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday declared personal assets worth Rs 11.82 crore, according to the affidavit she submitted while filing her nomination papers in Rae Bareli for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday declared personal assets worth Rs 11.82 crore, according to the affidavit she submitted while filing her nomination papers in Rae Bareli for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

According to the affidavits she submitted to the EC, her movable assets stand at Rs 4.29 crore. She has given a loan of Rs 5 lakh to her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, the affidavit says.

She has cash worth Rs 60 lakh and bank deposits of Rs 16.5 lakh. 

During the 2014 general elections, she had declared total assets worth Rs 9.28 crore. In 2014, she had declared assets worth Rs 9.28 crore that comprised movable assets of Rs 2.81 crores including 1267.3 grams gold, 88 kg silver and Rs 66 lakh in bank accounts.

She has one criminal case against her, filed by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy.

Accompanied by her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her son-in-law Robert Vadra, Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination from Rae Bareli. Ahead of filing the paper, Sonia Gandhi also held a roadshow and offered puja at the Congress central office in Amethi.

Earlier, Sonia Gandhi's son and  Congress chief Rahul Gandhi declared his assets worth over 15.88 crores, in the affidavit he submitted while submitting his nomination papers for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.

The affidavit shows that Rahul Gandhi does not own a car and has a total liability of Rs 72 lakh as loans from various banks and other financial institutions. Gandhi has declared movable assets to the tune of Rs 5,80,58,799 and immovable assets worth Rs 10,08,18,284, with his total assets being worth Rs 15,88,77,083.

In the 2014 elections, he had declared the value of his total assets as Rs 9.4 crore. 

The Congress president, who is also contesting from Amethi seat, has declared in his affidavit that there were five cases pending against him. Two of the cases against him are registered in Maharashtra and one each in Jharkhand, Assam and New Delhi, according to the affidavit.

While the Congress chief has Rs 40,000 as cash-in-hand, he has Rs 17.93 lakh as deposits in various banks. Gandhi also has investments worth Rs 5.19 crore in bonds, debentures and shares in various companies in mutual funds. The assets also include 333.3 grams of gold.
