AIMIM MLA Waris Pathan on Friday demanded that Election Commission take cognizance of Maneka Gandhi's speech where she told Muslim voters that she won't help them if she doesn't get their support. He also said that the Election Commission should take action against her for her speech.
"A case should be filed against her its an open of attempt of polarisation. Its a direct threat to Muslims. The Election Commission should take note of it and take action against her to ensure such statements are not made again . Their mindset has come in front of public," he said.
He also asked what Maneka Gandhi and BJP did for the Muslims, "What has she, BJP, and for that matter Congress done for the Muslims?"
In a controversial statement, Maneka Gandhi has asked Muslim voters in her constituency of Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to back her in the Lok Sabha elections saying that she won't help them if she doesn't get their support.
Gandhi was speaking on Thursday in her rally when she made the shocking statement.
"I am winning for sure but if I win without the support of Muslims then I would feel really bad and when Muslims come to me for work then I feel there is no point of helping them as after all giving employment is a give-and-take and it is not that we are like Mahatma Gandhi as we continue to help them but don't win in the elections. Spread this message everywhere," she said.
The story comes a day after the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Mayawati and Yogi Adityanath who also made statements mentioning religion of the voters in their campaign speeches.
After her comment made headlines, she tweeted saying that the Centre has worked for the welfare of all and followed government's 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' guideline.
