After the Election Commission rejected the nomination of ex-BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav for the Varanasi seat on the Samajwadi Party ticket in fray with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party chief Akhilesh Yadav has given his first response over the declaration.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has aggressively taken on the BJP over the refusal of Varanasi's candidature, saying that the party only asks for votes in the 'name of nationalism'
He stated that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "such a nationalist person" then he should've faced a Jawan as his opponent, furthermore blamed him for "snatching" the Jawan's job.
He said, "If Modi is such a nationalist person, then he would have faced a Jawan in front of him. They snatched a Jawan's job just because he showed the reality, then these people can't be a nationalist."
"They want vote on the name of nationalism but they snatched jobs from a jawan only when he showed reality. His nomination got canceled and now people will respond to BJP after voting," he added.
Upon hearing Election Commission's decision, the SP candidates counsel said that they will approach Supreme Court over rejection of nomination.
Tej Bahadur Yadav was a replacement for Shalini Yadav who was earlier chosen as the party's Varanasi candidate. However, she too filed her nomination after Yadav's refusing to back away from contesting.
His nomination was rejected as he did not provide information about the suspension from his government job. He did not submit the NOC from BSF to contest the polls.
