Republic TV on Tuesday confronted senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, a day after Election Commission imposed 72 hours ban on his election campaigning in the light of the lewd comments he made against BJP candidate Jaya Parada while addressing a public rally.
Confronted on the EC ban at Bhopal Airport, Azam Khan did not respond to the questions posed by Republic. However, he went on to ignore the media and ask counter questions to the reporters as well.
"Why are you stopping my way? Will you teach me how to behave now? Is this the character of channels?" said Azam Khan responding to the questions on objectionable remarks against BJP leader Jaya Prada in public rally.
After taking cognisance of the disgusting 'khaki undergarment' comment on BJP's Jaya Prada, the Election Commission on Monday issued a notice to SP leader Azam Khan imposing a 72-hour prohibition staring 10 am on Tuesday and further reprimanded the leader for his remark.
He has been barred from holding public meetings, public processions, public rallies, road shows and interviews, public utterances in media (print, electronic and social media) for 72 hours.
Along with the punishment, an FIR under Section 509 of IPC and Section 125 of Representation of the people Act, 1951 has also been lodged against the senior SP leader for his 'indecent' and 'repugnant' comment against Jaya Prada.
Khan made the obnoxious remark in the presence of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and other senior party leaders, who were present on the dais.
"I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underp****," said Khan while addressing an election rally in Meerut.
Jaya Prada launched a scathing attack on the SP leader, saying that this is not the first time that Azam Khan had insulted her. Adding that she will not succumb to his comments, she demanded the Election Commission to cancel his nomination for the ensuing elections.
Azam Khan is set to take on BJP's Jaya Prada from Uttar Pradesh's Rampur Lok Sabha constituency.
