Prior to filing her Lok Sabha nomination from Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, Union Leader of Textile and BJP Leader Smriti Irani along with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a mega roadshow in Amethi. She had also performed a 'pooja' along with her husband Zubin Irani in Amethi on Thursday.
Irani will lock horns with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who is fighting from his traditional bastion Uttar Pradesh's Amethi in the Lok Sabha elections. He has already filed his Amethi nomination on Wednesday. Apart from Amethi, Gandhi will also be contesting from Wayanad in Kerala, where Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan's LDF is the major contender.
On Tuesday, Smriti Irani had hit out at Rahul Gandhi saying that he lacked vision and his 'absenteeism' in Amethi had led to no development.
"Despite having a vision, there is a question mark on his efficiency as the nation knows the condition of Amethi. On one hand, there is an efficient government which has taken a resolution to build a 'New India', on the other, there is a man who stays restricted to making announcements. When it comes to the reality of his own constituency, people get to know that despite being an MP for so long he has not been able to develop it," she said to reporters.
