Minutes after a sensation scoop emerged from the Congress camp that hinted that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may contest against PM Modi in Varanasi, BJP has given its first response stating that they welcome her to the battleground. Speaking to Republic TV, the national spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party, Meenakashi Lekhi said:
"Bohot bohot swagaat hai Priyanka ji ka vo zaroor maidan mai utrey aur mujhe intzaar rahega uska jab affidavit file hoga jisme pati ke assets rahenge".
(She is most welcome to enter the battlefield, however, I will be waiting for her affidavit where spousal assets will be declared)
The BJP minister also took on Badruddin Farooq's 'chaiwala' comment on PM Modi and said:
"It's not just Badruddin Farooq we even have Mr Kejriwal. This only shows their mindset because your language shows your thinking. Frustration is at large as they have lost their count, they are making all these silly comments."
This comes after Congress revealed that a certain camp within the party has expressed the view that the newly appointed Congress leader should take on PM Modi in his home turf and that Priyanka Vadra has acquiesced to this request. The Congress is also insistent that the Gathbandhan of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party should come out in support of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra if the battle does materialise.
The final decision, however, is in the hands of party president Rahul Gandhi, though in this case as well, as per Congress sources, a certain camp within the party is of the view that he has no reason to object now that Priyanka Vadra has giver her nod.
