With the countdown underway to the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Uttar Pradesh's three-way competition between SP-BSP alliance, the Congress party and BJP is catching momentum. Following Mayawati's 'Muslim vote' statement, Congress' Jyotiraditya Scindia differing from her opinion has stated that both the parties have their 'own ideologies'
When questioned over BSP supremo Mayawati's 'Muslims should vote for Mahagathbandhan' stance, Scindia rebutted claiming that time has come to change the path from religion, caste politics to development and progress.
He further added how it is her 'job to seek votes' however, they have a different ideology and Congress has its own.
He said, "It is her job to ask for votes for her party. This is the strength of democracy. We respect all Opposition parties, they have their ideology, we have our own ideology. We are going amid the people to win their trusts."
While doing so, he lashed out at PM Modi's government for 'looting' people
He said, "Its time to leave the politics of religion, caste. If we have to make the country stronger, then we must talk about development and progress, let's talk about bread. The Modi government has snatched away from people's daily bread, looted the people and created the environment of intolerance. We want to change that environment, want to remove the government of indiscipline and replace it with a government of discipline."
BSP chief on Sunday while addressing a rally in Deoband in Sahranpur gave a polarising speech where she appealed to Muslim voters to vote for the BSP-SP coalition (with RLD in tow) and not Congress saying that the party led by Gandhis cannot fight the BJP.
She said, "I want to tell the Muslim community to not let their votes divide. I ask you to vote together for BSP, SP, and RLD."
"I'm warning, especially people of Muslim community, that Congress isn't in a position to fight BJP in UP. Only 'gathbandhan' can fight BJP. Congress knows this but they're going by mantra 'Hum jeete ya na jeete, gathbandhan nahi jeetna chahiye'. Therefore Congress party has fielded candidates from such castes and religion which will benefit BJP. Therefore I am warning members of Muslim community," she said.
Congress in March had announced that it is leaving 7 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats for SP-BSP-RJD alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
It is worth mentioning that SP, BSP, and RLD have forged an alliance to take on the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the state. SP president Akhilesh Yadav had, however, claimed that the Congress party is with the SP-BSP alliance in UP. SP-BSP has left Rae Bareli and Amethi seats for the Congress.
