Instead of decrying party member Azam Khan's lewd 'Khaki-undergarment' remark on BJP's Jaya Prada, Akhilesh Yadav's spouse Dimple Yadav downplaying the issue called it a 'little thing'
On the contrary, questioning in return for raising the issue altogether, Dimple stated that the media was silent when comments were made against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and BSP supremo Mayawati.
She said, "None can say anything wrong about any women. People said about Priyanka, Mayawati and even then why media was silent at that time? Why are issues raised when things are said only against the BJP leaders. I believe SP has done historic work with respect to women's security and more states should undertake such work."
Treating the issue as BJP's tactic to 'divert' from issues she uttered that focus should not be put on 'little things'
"Don't put your focus on little things. Don't put your focus on little things. BJP has the strength to divert issues. They are just distracting from major issues," Yadav said.
Taking cognisance of the crass comment on BJP's Jaya Pradha, the Election Commission on Monday issued a notice to SP leader Azam Khan imposing a 72-hour prohibition staring 10 am on Tuesday and further reprimanded the leader for his remark.
Along with the punishment, an FIR under Section 509 of IPC and Section 125 of Representation of the People Act, 1951 has been lodged against the senior SP leader for his 'indecent' and 'repugnant' comment against Jaya Prada.
Khan had been banned for campaigning in Uttar Pradesh for his misconduct and 'provocative' speech back in Lok Sabha 2014 and even in 2019, the poll body has stated that he has violated the Model Code of Conduct.
Khan, who is in the fray from Rampur on the SP ticket, made the obnoxious remark in the presence of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and other senior party leaders, who were present on the dais.
"I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underp****," said Khan while addressing an election rally here.
