In a heartwarming gesture towards his Muslim constituents, PM Modi, on Thursday while passing through Sonarpura, a Muslim dominated area in Varanasi, on his mega roadshow paused to accept a shawl from an old fan in the crowds.

In a heartwarming gesture towards his constituents, PM Modi, on Thursday while passing through Sonarpura, a Muslim dominated area in Varanasi, on his mega roadshow paused to accept a shawl from an old fan in the crowds.

The video shows the Prime Minister's cavalcade pass through a packed street in Sonarpura while the local area chief welcomes the Prime Minister on the loudspeaker. It also shows an old man clutching a silver shawl, waiting impatiently for the Prime Minister. As PM Modi, enters the street, the old man gestures with his shawl, to gain the Prime Minister's attention. On seeing the man's attempts, PM Modi indicates the man to throw the shawl. The crowd then assist the man and pass the shawl to PM Modi, who wears it immediately and proceeds on his roadshow to huge cheers from the surrounding crowds.

PM Modi who arrived at Varanasi started his mega roadshow at 5:15 PM with the garlanding of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) founder Madan Mohan Malaviya's statue. The rally was originally to start at 3 pm but was delayed by over two hours. Travelling with a massive entourage, the Prime Minister passed through a sea of supporters thronging to see him and progressed on his 7 km long roadshow from the Malaviya statue to the Dashashwamedha Ghat.

PM Modi had tweeted his gratitude for the warm reception at Varanasi.

At the culmination of the roadshow, as per schedule, PM Modi was joined on the dais by BJP president Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and to view the splendid Ganga Aarti and the party's UP president Mahendra Nath Pandey. PM Modi tweeted his happiness at witnessing the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedha Ghat in Varanasi.

As shared by BJP president Amit Shah in a press conference on Tuesday, the Ganga Aarti will be followed by the Prime Minister's interaction with a few selected intellectuals at the Hotel de Paris. 

Shah had also shared Friday's schedule saying:

"Next day, on April 26, in the morning at 9:30 AM, at the same Hotel de Paris, PM Modi will address all the party workers in the Kashi constituency. After concluding this, PM Modi will go for the darshan of the Lord Kala Bhairav and then he will go for his nomination."

He also shared the names of the dignitaries who will be a part of PM Modi's nomination process.

"In the nomination process, BJP's senior leaders, parliamentary board leaders and many leaders of the NDA will be present like Ram Vilas Paswan, Nitish Kumar,  Shiromani Akali Dal's Sukhbir Singh Badal, AIADMK leaders, Asom Gana Parishad leaders, Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackrey among a few."
