In a massive embarrassment to the Congress ahead of the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, a sitting MLA from Gandhi family bastion Rae Bareli has claimed that the party's Uttar Pradesh general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has divided the Congress in the district.
In a damning allegation against her, Congress MLA Rakesh Singh from Harchandpur in Rae Bareli district, has also said she protects criminals.
"I am working under pressure. Being is member of the party is separate. I am a Congress MLA and constitutionally will be.But it is wrong of her to bring goons from outside and hit our brothers and frame criminal charges against us. Party and position is temporary but a brother is not. If someone is accusing him then how will I keep quiet? What she is saying is wrong. Priyanka Gandhi is shielding criminals, as per my sources, this is what I know. Due to Priyanka Gandhi's conspiracy, the party's results will get worse. She always comes here for an hour and makes us fight each other. They come here during elections, make us fight and then leave. We need to understand why they are trying to make us fight among ourselves everytime they are here,"
In a yet another clear display of infighting within the Congress, this time in Punjab, party leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday slammed Captain Amarinder Singh after she was denied Amritsar ticket.
"I was denied ticket after our CM sa'ab & Asha ji had specifically said that I can't win from Amritsar. If I'm working for party, at least don't have such small heart and brain that when you can see the larger picture that country needs to be saved from Modi and bring... My message was Captain sa'ab should respect women. You talk of women reservation, then consider them. When educated leaders like me, ready to serve others come, it's decent to tell us that someone's better so it's being done but don't deny us tickets by lying," she said
