As people in Varanasi waited with bated breath for PM Narendra Modi's roadshow, Republic Media Network spoke to people from the famed Ram Leela Committee at Assi Chauraha whose members will join the Prime Minister in the event.
A group from a Ram Leela Committee which claims to be over 500 years old spoke about joining PM Modi on the roadshow.
The members of the committee were decked up from head-to-toe as Gods of the Hindu pantheon. Predominently seen were those dressed as Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Hanuman and Lord Krishna amongst many others.
"This is the oldest Ram Leela committee in Varanasi. It is over 500 years old. On the roadshow which will take place on Baba Vishwanath Nagri, the group will bless him and do a puja at Ganga for him," said a person from the group.
The member of the group who was dressed as Krishna also spoke. "I will be blessing him to win in the elections in the form of Krishna," he said.
Another person from the group said vouched for PM Modi saying, "Kashi has been changed, this is the oldest area, it will take some time to bring total transformation. It won't happen in 2-4 years. He is being a leader like Ram. There is salvation in Kashi in the name of Ram."
PM Narendra Modi will file his nomination papers for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Friday, April 26. Ahead of filing his nomination on Friday, he will carry out a 7-km mega roadshow on April 25, Thursday, in his bastion in Uttar Pradesh.
On Thursday, the roadshow will begin from the Malviya statue at 3 pm and end at the Dashashwamedha Ghat, following which the Prime Minister will participate in Ganga Aarti. He is scheduled to interact with a few selected intellectuals at the Hotel de Paris later on Thursday evening at 8.
