Former Union Minister and BJP candidate for western Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, Sanjeev Balyan, has alleged on Thursday, that  "fake" voting is happening in his constituency during the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls because faces of women wearing 'burkhas' were not checked. He has demanded a re-poll if his complaint was not addressed.

"Faces of women in burqa are not being checked and I allege that fake voting is being done. If not looked into, I will demand a re-poll," Balyan told reporters outside a polling booth after casting his ballot.

Sanjeev Balyan, who is the sitting MLA of Muzaffarnagar is seeking re-election and is facing RLD chief Ajit Singh in Thursday's polls.The Muzaffarnagar seat is a communally sensitive seat as Muslims constitute the single biggest electorate in the constituency, followed by Dalits and Jats.

In the previous Lok Sabha polls, Balyan had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's Kadir Rana by a margin of more than four lakh votes.

The first phase of polling is underway where 1285 candidates are contesting 91 seats in 1,69,400 polling centres spread across 18 states and two union territories on April 11, Thursday.  Polling in all the Lok Sabha constituencies of Andhra Pradesh (25), Telangana (17), Uttarakhand (5), Meghalaya (2) and Arunachal Pradesh (2) besides lone seats in Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep is being held.

Eight seats in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Maharashtra, six in Bihar, five in Assam, four in Odisha, two each in Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal and one seat in Chhattisgarh are also going to polls. Of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the SP is contesting from 37 seats,  BSP from 38 seats, and RLD from three seats. The state will see polling in all seven phases in the Lok Sabha elections.

The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections will be held from April 11 to May 19 in seven phases, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 23. The results of the Lok Sabha polls will also be declared on May 23.
