Union Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday reacted to Republic Media Network's sensational report on dealings between Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi with persons and entities who were being probed over scam allegations during the UPA regime.
She hit out at the Gandhi-Vadra family and the Congress and demanded that they must answer about Rahul Gandhi being a "mute spectator" when huge scams such as the 2G spectrum allocation scam were unearthed during the UPA regime.
"Rahul must answer people of nation. It is not surprising that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are once again found with their hand in the cookie jar, specially found with economic relationships with 2G accused and various scamsters. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress needs to answer the entire nation that why is it that while the nation was being looted Rahul Gandhi chose to be mute spectator. Is it because his political support was bought by scamsters?
Republic Media Network's newsbreak revealed in two parts the business dealings between the Gandhi Vadra family and persons and entities accused in 2G scam and NSEL scam raising questions of propriety.
The first newsbreak raised questions over dealings between the current Congress president and one of the 2G scam's main-accused Sanjay Chandra and his company Unitech from the time that the scam was being probed.
The second newsbreak revealed through documents that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra Gandhi had conducted business transactions with one of Jignesh Shah's companies which involved a sprawling farmhouse owned jointly by the Gandhi siblings. Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra recieved 407% of declared property value as 'deposit' and an inordinate figure of monthly rent for their property by Shah's company.

Smriti Irani will begin her two-day campaign in Amethi on Thursday from where she is fighting the polls against Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi, meanwhile, will be filing his nomination from Wayanad, the second seat from where he will be contesting the elections.
