In this edition of Republic Media Network's broadcast of 'On The Road', Special Correspondent Himanshu Dev speaks to BJP MP from Ghazipur and Union Minister Manoj Sinha as he travels across Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh for campaigning for the seat.
Sinha has been the MoS for the Ministry of Communications in PM Narendra Modi's cabinet. He had won from the Ghazipur seat in 2014 and is seeking a re-election.
In this show, he speaks about several aspects about the contest in Ghazipur and also about his party's chances in the country.
Sinha who is the sitting MP from Ghazipur spoke about his work for the constituency.
"I can tell you that in terms of connectivity the situation of Ghazipur has improved. The district roads have improved. There will soon be air connectivity. I have modernised education from primary to higher studies," he said.
Sinha will go head-to-head against jailed don Mukhtar Ansari's brother Afzal Ansari this time. Sinha and Ansari had also fought Lok Sabha polls in 2004 however there was a lot of bloodshed that had taken place then. Speaking about what he feels about how the contest will take place now, he said,
"Last time the government had harboured such elements, this time the government in UP is capable of holding fair and peaceful elections,' he said.
He also spoke about BJP president Amit Shah predicting a huge victory to the party saying that it will win 282 seats and NDA will get 320 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections owing to Modi wave.
"I fully agree with Amit Shah that there is more support for BJP today than in 2014 and I believe we will win more seats than 2014," he said.
