Addressing the party workers in her brother's bastion Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seems to have conceded defeat even before the electoral war has officially begun.
The Congress party's Uttar Pradesh East General Secretary, while having an interaction with a few supporters, asked them if they are preparing for the elections.
But in a surprising turn of event, the younger Gandhi sibling did not question them on their preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, but on their preparations for the 2022 state elections in Uttar Pradesh.
"Are you preparing for the elections?" asked Priyanka to one of her party workers before adding, "Not for this one (Lok Sabha 2019), for the '22 (Uttar Pradesh state elections)."
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been doing a series of rallies ever since plunging into politics earlier this year. She has been campaigning for the party across Uttar Pradesh, and will next visit Ayodhya.
Though, when it comes to her contesting in the upcoming polls, the younger Gandhi sibling is unsure about it. During her meeting with party workers in Amethi and Rae Bareli, she suggested considering fighting from a seat if the party asks her to do so.
"I have not decided yet, but if my party asks me to contest, I will definitely contest. My wish is to work for the party," Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing the party workers.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined active politics in January 2019 after being appointed as the General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) by Rahul Gandhi. While there were speculative reports that she would contest from her mother's constituency Rae Bareli in 2019 polls, speculations were put to rest after Sonia Gandhi was re-selected to contest from her bastion again.
Ever since her induction into politics, Priyanka Gandhi has been campaigning extensively in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in March, she undertook a 140-km-long boat ride from Prayagraj to Varanasi, which is PM Modi's Parliamentary constituency. During her visit, she interacted with people of the state and visited a number of temples.
