In a breaking development, Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lost her cool during an election campaign in Amethi and launched a scathing attack against Union Minister Smriti Irani.
Speaking to the public of Amethi during her election rally in the constituency, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that during her campaigning she has witnessed the miseries that the people have been facing in various parts of Uttar Pradesh (East), alleging that the BJP created hurdles to an array of developmental projects in Amethi.
"Election is here and so many outsiders are also trying to spread lies that Rahul Gandhi does not visit. You know the truth. The objectionable thing was that Smriti Irani ji came here and she distributed shoes among the people. She thought that she is insulting Rahul Gandhi but she insulted Amethi people. They should beg for Votes and not you. You must understand what is happening in this election. Lie, trying to divert the attention of people, and a campaign which is different from reality. I am roaming around UP East and witnessing the miseries of the people. Wherever I am going, people are facing difficulties, I am noticing. Small industries have been shut. Youth is roaming around the streets because they have not been provided employment. The population of Amethi are sensible. They have stopped developmental projects in Amethi," Priyanka Vadra said speaking to the public.
Later targeting the Prime Minister, she claimed that he has not visited even a single village in the city.
"I went to Varanasi and asked people if the PM visits them. I learnt that he has not been to even a single village in the last five years. This is the situation there," she added.

Uttar Pradesh's Amethi and Rae Bareli are scheduled to go to polls in the fourth phase of the General elections on May 6, while Varanasi will witness polling in the last phase on May 19.
Amethi is all set to witness a fiery battle between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani. While Rahul Gandhi is looking for reelection in the 2019 poll, Smriti Irani is looking forward to dethroning three-time MP Congress president from his bastion in Amethi. The result of the elections will be declared on May 23.
In 2004 and 2009, the Congress president came out victorious with a huge margin from Amethi, finishing with more than double the votes of the runners-up. Though, in 2014, he received stiff competition from BJP's Smriti Irani, now Textiles Minister. Rahul Gandhi won just over 4 lakh votes, and got 46.71 % vote share in 2014. Smriti Irani came a close second, winning over 3 lakh seats with a vote share of 34.38% - a sizeable dent in the Gandhis' fortress, as can be evidenced from the fact that apart from in Amethi and Rae Bareli, the Congress was wiped out in India's most populous state.
