Top authorities of the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi speaking to Republic Media Network contradicted the allegations made by Union Minister Smriti Irani earlier in the day by sharing a video of a man, who claimed that his uncle was denied treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme despite holding a card.
The Director of the hospital, in contrast stated that 205 treatments have been conducted under the scheme and went on the elaborate on the incident, providing their version of the story.
He said, "This is an absolute wrong allegation. Our hospital has been tied up with Ayushman Bharat ever since October 2018 and we have conducted over 200 treatment under this. This particular patient, came on April 15 at 11 PM, and he did not have te Ayushman Bharat card. We don't have any such facility to treat the patient under the scheme wherein the patient does not hold a Ayushman Bharat card. The condition of the patient was critical and our doctors immediately decided to admit him to the ICU. Next day, the patient came with an Ayushman Bharat card but again we don't have a facility wherein we can admit somebody in back-date, so it was my orders that the treatment of the patient must go on and we'll see later how to settle his treatment."
"Sanjay Gandhi Hospital has treated 205 patients under Ayushman Bharat, and this is the highest number among three hospitals in Amethi district who are affiliated to the scheme. We are accepting the card, and we have no issue accepting the card. We have been getting our payments regularly on time," he added.
When questioned over the allegations made by the man, that his uncle was turned down treatment by the 'Gandhi' Hospital for holding a Ayushman Bharat card, a scheme initiated by PM Narendra Modi, the authority claimed that 'no doctor ever politicised' a treatment, debunking the accusation made against them.
He said, "No doctor in his right mind ever politicise any treatement. Doctor Siddharth has been working for whatever time I've known him. There have been absolutely no complaint against him, in fact 60% of the patients are his patients. Now the patient should know why he made this accusation."
In the video, Smriti Irani is seen asking the man questions on how he had taken his uncle to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital with Ayudhman Bharat Card and then help, saying that "this hospital is not Yogi and Modi's hospital. Ayushman card doesn't work here."
"Today, I am speechless - How can someone stoop down to such a level, I never thought. A poor was denied help only because he was holding a PM Modi Ayushman Bharat card and had gone to Rahul Gandhi's hospital," she wrote in the tweet.
