In a shocking remark, controversial Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Sunday alleged that Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is trying to kill him.
Addressing an election in Rampur only days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Azam Khan claimed that he is 'defenceless' and the Modi-Yogi government is conspiring to 'kill' him, adding that they will use all tactics to win the polls.
"Rampur's candidates have come here to kill me. All my licences have been cancelled. I am defenseless. All the licences of my family have been cancelled. The Modi government and Yogi government are planning a conspiracy to get me killed. You can decide. They will try every wrong tactic. They will play with the machines (EVMs). They will try all crooked ways," the Samajwadi Party leader.
Earlier on Saturday, Azam Khan made a personal and abusive statement against Yogi Adityanath, calling the UP CM a "neech".
"Is it a sin to give water to Muslims in your religion? Then why did Yogiji cut of water connection of my children. You will stoop this low? Arre neech! Against how many officers will you file cases?...", said Khan while addressing a public rally.
In the aftermath of provocative statements made by Azam Khan, a case was registered against him on April 3. The police registered the complaint made by Congress leader Faisal Khan Lala, under Section 125 of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and sections 505(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code.
Having held the Rampur Assembly Constituency for almost 33 out of the last 39 years, Azam Khan is set to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh yet again. BJP leader Jaya Prada will be taking on Khan as the BJP candidate from the seat.
The nation is all set to go to polls from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
