Ahead of the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, BJP chief Amit Shah spoke to Republic TV and reiterated that the party will win with a larger margin in the state of Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday evening, BJP chief in a roadshow at Yogi Adityanath's bastion of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh said that the massive turnout in his rallies shows the will of the people.
While speaking to Republic TV, Shah said:
"We will win with heavy majority. In by-polls, the voting is not for deciding the Prime Minister, this time it is to decide who will be the country's Prime Minister. The massive turnout of the people in Gorakhpur proves that we are coming back with an extraordinary majority.
When asked about claims by BSP-SP-RLD gathbandhan that they have cornered the BJP in the state, he said:
"We will win with more votes than last time from Uttar Pradesh. They will claim, let them, what else can they say, this is the ground reality, the massive turnout, we are winning Uttar Pradesh."
Earlier, in Uttar Pradesh's Domariyaganj district, Shah spoke exclusively to Republic Bharat and asserted that the party will win Uttar Pradesh with over 73 seats and a bigger margin than 2014 and 2017.
He said, "In 2014 we won, in 2017 as well we won and in 2019 we will win with a bigger margin. I always think and talk, abrogating the Article 370 is our core issue and we feel we will be successful in it. I would like to say, I know Uttar Pradesh, I have maintained relations with the people of Uttar Pradesh, I trust my workers. There are one crore BJP workers in Uttar Pradesh, are standing strong and we will win over 73 seats."
On being asked about the SP-BSP gathbandhan's confidence in winning more than 30 seats in UP as echoed by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in a rally, Shah observed how the contest for 70 seats has diminished to 30 seats now and which in the future may reduce to 10 seats.
" It's nice. Earlier they(SP-BSP) used to talk about 70 seats, at least now they are talking about 30 seats. Till the time they reach Kashi, they will start talking about 10 seats only. The scores have been settled. They started with 70 seats in Saharanpur where they said that as BJP had won 73 seats last time, we (SP-BSP) will win 70 seats. Today, they have reached to 30 seats in Domariyaganj and by the time they reach Kashi, they will reach up to 10 seats," said Shah.
