BJP youth worker Priyanka Sharma spoke to Republic TV about her arrest over sharing Mamata Banerjee's meme and her allegation that the police made her sign an apology forcefully.
"I was forcefully made to apologise, I wasn't allowed to talk to my lawyers and family members. I was made to remain in jail for 18 hours after bail being granted. There is gundaraj in West Bengal. I was arrested for a funny meme because I am from BJP and I am a woman, but other BJP workers are being treated with physical violence.
"The police just want to please Didi hence they arrested me. I will continue to fight against Mamata Didi's government," she said.
Earlier during the media briefing she also spoke about her ordeal while being in jail.
"If I was locked in jail for five days then imagine what could do to other karyakartas. I was jailed, tortured just because I am a BJP worker. I will not apologise. I will fight.
"They are very rude in the police station and I was also pushed by the jailor. The conditions in the jail are horrible in terms of water and hygiene. They took my phone and never returned it. Everybody is talking about BJP, they (TMC) don't want that, they couldn't stop me with threats so they jailed me. Now I will campaign for BJP even more.
"If I have been arrested, then arrest CM Mamata Banerjee also as she has spoken a lot against PM Modi. They jailed me even though I deleted the post, this is not democracy. They are trying to scare us because we are BJP workers," she said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Counsel for BJP youth wing worker Priyanka Sharma Neeraj Kishen Kaul said he will file a contempt plea against the Kolkata police for allegedly making her sign an apology letter before her release from jail and also to recall the apology. Kaul has said that the apology letter was prepared by the Kolkata police which said that she will not post the meme again.
