WATCH: Locals Caught On Tape Hurling Crude Bombs Near Polling Booth In West Bengal's Murshidabad To Disrupt Election Process

A Congress worker has been killed in Murshidabad in the ensuing clashes as the third phase of polls are underway.

In West Bengal, where each of the polling phases thus far have seen some form of clash or the other between the locals and the CRPF Jawans on poll duty, another clash was witnessed on Tuesday, this time in Murshidabad district, where crude bombs have been hurled by the locals across fields, on the polling booths.

Visuals show five-ten locals (all men) running away from the poll booth, chased by uniformed CRPF personnel. The men were seen hurling crude bombs on the polling station in an attempt to disrupt the polling process. Smoke was seen being emitted from the bombs which have exploded close to the poll booths.

These bomb hurlings have occurred in various poll booths across Murshidabad, as per inputs.

Clashes are not exclusive just to Murshidabad. Other constituencies like Malda (North and South), Jangipur have also been victim to these bomb-hurling incidents on Tuesday.

Earlier, in an on-camera incident in the Malda district, a booth presiding officer in Shujalpur was allegedly trying to influence voters in the poll booth. The Congress has approached the Election Commission regarding the violation.

Clashes have also erupted in Moradabad earlier on the same day, when BJP workers in one of the poll booths thrashed a polling officer, alleging that the voting pattern has been disturbed with respect to the symbols of the parties in contention. The discrepancy in the voting and the ensuing delay had allegedly irked the workers as a result of which clashes erupted. However, the police quickly brought the situation under control. 

In the visuals of the clash, a number of people can be seen ganging up on the lone polling officer, grabbing him by the collar and abusing him even as he protests.

In the previous phase of polling, locals had clashed with the police outside polling booth 159, in Raiganj, North Dinajpur of West Bengal.
The locals had claimed that bike-borne youths which have been identified as alleged Trinamool Congress supporters were seen stopping voters from casting their vote. Female voters have been reportedly attacked. The tension among the locals is due to ineffective policing, reports have said. They claim that the police who were on the scene when bikers have attacked voters did not take any action to stop these miscreants.

In retaliation to the clashes, Trinamool supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had fielded a parallel force named 'Jai Hind Bahini' against the CRPF for the deployment at the polling booths during general elections in the state. 

The phase three of the Lok Sabha polls is currently underway with one-fifth of the Lok Sabha seats (117 seats) are up for grabs. Polling is underway in 15 States and Union territories. This phase will also see the completion of voting in Gujarat (26 seats) and Karnataka (14 seats). Other states in contest are Kerala (20), Maharashtra (14), Uttar Pradesh (10 ), Assam (4), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (7 seats), Odisha (6), West Bengal (5), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (1), Daman and Diu (1),  Goa (2), Jammu and Kashmir (1) and Tripura (1).
